One of my coworkers recently showed me a picture of the most beautiful meatball sub I had ever seen in my life. Luckily, it can be found at the Cold Beer Co. in Dallas, Texas. Feast your eyes.
Naturally, Ben and I went there for dinner as soon as possible.
Cold Beer Co. is located down in Deep Ellum. Like most places in Deep Ellum, you’re better off taking a Lyft than trying to find a place to park. You’re also going to a place called Cold Beer Co., so in the interest of not drinking and driving, you’re better off not driving, because the beer here is pretty great.
I had the No Label El Hefe Weizen. It was a really fruity hefeweizen, but very refreshing. The beer selection was local and not mind-numbingly similar to the beer lists at any other given Dallas hangout.
Ben had the Miss Dorothy, which is Stoli Vanil, coffee liqueur, half-and-half, topped with Dr Pepper. He loved it. The food, pictured above, was obviously amazing. The meatball sub was gigantic, the chips were good, and the homemade pickle was a surprising bread and butter.
Unfortunately for us on this hot summer evening, there is very limited inside seating. The misting fans are a nice gesture, but a far cry from the sweet caress of cool air conditioning. Maybe it’s better when the sun goes down, but I would definitely suggest showing up in off-peak hours during the day to guarantee an inside seat.
Overall, the food is great, the drinks are great, and our server was attentive and quick. But you’re definitely going to need a cold beer if you missed out on an inside table and are sitting outside.
