Picky Bars and the Picky Club

I’m turning 25 on Friday! (I’m not as excited about that as the exclamation point would indicate.) I prefer to think of it as moving to a new age group rather than getting older, really. A few weeks ago, Amy introduced me to Picky Bars, and I eventually made my way to Trader Joe’s to pick up a few. I take in at least a third of my calories in bar form. Depending on whether I’ve just gotten done with a run and which nutrients I’m short on during the day, I’ll pick between a few different bars. I’ve got high protein bars, and a bar that’s balanced between protein and fiber, but I was missing one that’s good for replenishing glycogen after runs. That’s what Picky Bars are good for.

When I tried the Picky Bars I got form Trader Joe’s, I loved them! I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first got them, because the selling point was that they were made with whole ingredients and were non-GMO, which isn’t really a concern for me. I’m happy with GMOs out the wazoo, personally. But they didn’t taste all crunchy granola like the marketing made me think they’d be. In fact, they were really delicious, in an understated way. My regular bars are all chocolate and that’s all you taste. These are more subtle and complex than that.

So basically I was hooked. I loved the Cookie Doughiness and the Ah, Fudge Nuts a lot. I started looking at the website and saw the Picky Club. If you join the Picky Club, you get Picky Bars of your choosing delivered to you every month! That sounded really good to me, but I didn’t want to sign up for it because I didn’t really need them. I had other bars that were cheaper and I could get from the grocery store across the street instead of waiting for them to be delivered. I told Ben about it, and he decided that he was signing me up anyway. My first box came in last Friday!

I’ve got enough bars to get me through all of the workouts and hard runs that Uncle Pete has on the schedule for me over the next month or so. And there are a lot of workouts coming up in the next month. I’m getting whipped into shape right now, and it’s been a huge change from the easy aerobic runs I was doing all summer. I’m definitely needing to pay more attention to my post-run nutrition than I did over the past few months. I’m so happy that Ben signed me up for the Picky Club to help me do just that. Some Cookie Doughpness is going to help make turning 25 a little more sweet.

  1. I’m so glad you like them! I actually eat them BEFORE runs and find that eating half of a bar is just enough for me before a morning run… when I don’t want many calories but I still need a lil something in my tummy. If you like the bars you are definitely better off joining the club price wise so I don’t blame you! The Fudge Nuts one is tasty!

The best part was that they were running the special where you got ten extra bars for free when you joined, and I’ve got Ben hooked on them too! Thanks so much again for recommending them to me!
