I’ve been fed up lugging my 6D around when I wanted a camera with me just in case. 95% of the time, my 35mm lens was attached, so I didn’t need a DSLR with an interchangeable lens. I wanted something smaller that I could take with me all the time. Something that could reasonably be carried in every situation. Something like the Fujifilm X100F
So I consulted with one of the most camera-smart and photographically excellent people I know. She pretty quickly recommended the Fuji X100F. (Her name is also Alexandra, and you can find her at @alxpluspup on Instagram.) She knew my favorite focal length was 35mm and that I was already comfortable with fixies. So this camera was really a slam dunk. It’s tiny, it’s still fully manual, but it’s technically a point-and-shoot! (And that means no interchangeable lenses to sink money into!)
The Fujifilm X100F is a crop body with a 23mm lens, which works out to a 35mm equivalent on a full frame. The sensor is plenty sensitive, and the autofocus is lightning fast. I’m coming from the 35mm, which lacks autofocus, and being able to trust the camera on quick shots has been a treat. The electronic viewfinder has been really cool – it’s like Live View on my 6D, but within the viewfinder, so you can see if you’re too dark or spot on before you take the picture.
I’ve been bringing the X100F with me everywhere lately, and I do mean everywhere. The point of getting this camera was to have something I could carry on me at all times so that I can shoot more often and make photography more of a part of my life, rather than a special event. My coworkers have laughed at me a little for taking it on 7Eleven runs, but they’ll get used to it. Soon, it’ll just be another thing that I carry with me. I’ve gotten some great shots of stuff I wouldn’t ordinarily shoot already.
