Sitting on the bike again, but this time with a smile.

I’ve got a lot of free time right now. After an amazing summer of running, I’ve been relegated to the bike for a few weeks. This time, I stepped in a pothole. And then stepped in another pothole with my other leg. It’s been trippy. (As long as I make myself laugh, that’s what matters, right?)

I wrote a really good summary of my Summer of Malmo on ARTC, and I’ll post it here too because it was honestly the best training I’ve ever done in my life. I was smashing tempos and eating up 400s like a…not a pro, but like someone who had a little interval training in their logs already. I was looking at half marathon goals closer to 1:33 than 1:39.

Alas, at the moment, I’m just hoping to make it to the start line. I love the DRC Half Marathon and I really don’t want to DNS this one too. This year has been a was for goal races for me, and in my sulkiest moments with this injury, I complained about this year being a complete waste. But it wasn’t. Even if I don’t make this race, there will be more, and I’ll have the nearly 1500 miles from this year under my belt too. It’s disheartening to have such a great summer of training and possibly not be able to prove the fitness I know I had. I won’t argue that. But I’ll have another race soon.

In the meantime, I’ll keep riding the stationary bike and occasionally the actual bike and try to keep my fitness up. I’ve got a lot of Netflix to watch, and I’m keeping myself busy with the new podcast I’m doing with my cohost and friend Evan. It’s called The 1609 Podcast, and it’s on all the podcast apps and twitter and Facebook at @1609pod. We’ll be releasing our twelfth episode this week, and I’m super stoked to be taking this jump and learning new skills along the way.

I’m hoping to get out on the roads again next week, just in time for a couple of weeks of easy training and then maybe, possibly, if I’m lucky, the DRC Half on November 5.
