Newton Texas Flag Shoes

I make no bones about being a fan of Newton shoes. I know a lot of people think they’re gimmicky or something, but they’re the only shoe I’ve been able to run in reliably. When I saw that they were coming out with limited edition Newton Texas flag shoes, I knew I had to get them.

I’m not actually one of those gung-ho Texas people, but inevitably, one of the fast people on the start line at any given road race is wearing Texas flag shorts. I’ve got the shorts, but I figured a similar pair of shoes surely couldn’t hurt. Without further ado, I present the shoes you want to be wearing if you need to make a quick Texit.

These shoes are (fortunately for me) made in the Aha platform. They’re based on the men’s shoes, so women were suggested to order 1.5 sizes down from their normal size.

Now I’m just going to say straight off that I have not run in these shoes. I don’t plan to run in them until my half in November. Maybe the night before for a shakeout, but I want to reserve these shoes just for races. I’m not concerned about acclimating to the shoes because I already run in Ahas.

I love the new mesh that Newton are doing with these shoes over the older model. It looks a lot more durable and I imagine they stay cleaner longer, which you’re definitely going to want in a shoe like this one.

Because they are limited edition, you’re going to want to grab your pair soon. If you’re not from Texas, you should buy a pair and move to Texas anyway. Don’t worry about training in the heat – you’ll reap tons of speed gains come fall.

If you’re not from Texas and don’t want to move here, Newton also have Colorado flag shoes and some really neat Boston shoes that have the elevation profile of the marathon on the side.

There are some pretty great things coming out of Boulder (including some women’s Gravity Vs in non-pastel colors!), but I’ve got to say, these Newton Texas flag shoes really take the cake.

  1. The shoes look awesome! It’s neat when running shoes come in fun patterns and it’s the shoe you wear. I really liked the Nantucket Brooks Adrenaline, but those are stability so I can’t wear them (I am a neutral runner). I hope you like the shoes and they take you to some speedy “Texits” to the finish 😉
